Read this chart to see what you will work on in each unit.

Unit 1 — Family

In this unit, you will listen to a lot of family talk. You will work on catching the basic ideas that people are saying, and you will practice hearing linked sounds. You will study the grammatical use of would, used to, and be used to.
Unit 2 — Health

In this unit, you will listen to people talking about health. You will work on predicting what people are going to say, and you will practice hearing sentence stress. You will study the grammatical use of the present perfect tense.
Unit 3 — Education

In this unit, you will listen to people talking about education. You will work on making inferences about the real meaning of the things that people are saying, and you will practice hearing reduced sounds. You will study the grammatical use of articles.
Unit 4 — Sports

In this unit, you will listen to people talking about sports. You will work on ignoring the unimportant parts of the things that people are saying, and you will practice hearing more linked sounds. You will study the grammatical use of adjective clauses.
Unit 5 — Business

In this unit, you will listen to people talking about business. You will work on catching the main ideas that people are saying, and you will practice hearing intonation. You will study the grammatical use of tag questions.
Unit 6 — Environment

In this unit, you will listen to people talking about the environment. You will work on catching the main ideas and supporting details that people are saying, and you will practice hearing the words can and can’t. You will study the grammatical use of the first and second conditional.
