The following are examples of questions and answers. There are two ways to answer these questions. You can answer the questions with a complete sentence using the verb from the question or you can use single words or short phrases.

Answer 1: Marlene travelled by car.
Answer 2: By car.

What did Marlene do?
Answer 1: She visited museums.
Answer 2: Visited museums.


Why did Marlene travel?
Answer 1: Marlene travelled because** she was on vacation.
Answer 2: Because** she was on vacation.

** The word "because" is used to answer "why" questions.

NOTE: When the question word is the subject of the question, a helping verb is not used.

Who travels to Toronto?
NOT: Who does travel to Toronto?

What arrives at 7 p.m.?
NOT: What does arrive at 7 p.m.?
