Simple Sentences

 
 

A simple sentence, also called an independent clause, is a sentence that has one subject and one verb.

The

cat is

black.

 

subject + verb

 

A simple sentence:

  • is a group of words combined to make one complete thought.

  • begins with a capital letter and ends with a period.

  • may be short or long.

  • shows plural / singular agreement between the subject and the verb.

  • has pronoun agreement between the subject and the pronoun(s) referring to the subject.
