Causative Verbs

 
 

Definition

A causative verb is used to describe a situation in which the subject "causes" the object to do something.


Example

Sharon made her daughter wash the dishes after work.


Explanation

Causative verbs:

  • include "make", "have", and "get".
  • have the form make / have + simple form of verb, and get + infinitive.
  • use auxiliary verbs + not in the negative form.
  • use auxiliary verbs in yes / no questions.
  • follow regular rules for wh-question formation.
