Definition

An adjective gives more information about a noun.


Example

Dave has a red car. (adjective = red)

Adjectives:

  • give more information about nouns.
  • give information about someone's opinion.
  • give information about age.
  • give information about colour.
  • give information about size and measurement.
  • give information about shape.
  • give information about origin.
  • give information about characteristics.
  • give information about what something is made of.
  • do not change form for plural nouns.
  • go before the nouns they describe.
  • follow the verbs "to be", "to feel", "to taste", "to smell", "to look", and "to sound".
  • can show possession.
  • follow the verb "to get" to show a change to the adjective.
  • are participial when "-ing" or "-ed" is added to a verb and it is used as an adjective.
