Comparatives compare two nouns.


Example

Jill is taller than Jack.


Explanation

Comparatives:

  • add "er" to the end of adjectives with one syllable.
  • use "more" before adjectives with more than one syllable.
  • use as + adjective + as for similar nouns.
  • have irregular forms.
  • change words ending in "y" to "i" and then add "er".
  • double consonants if the word ends in consonant + vowel + consonant.
  • add "er" to the end of two-syllable adjectives ending in "y".
