Definition

Superlatives compare two or more nouns.


Example

Jill is the tallest student in the class.


Explanation

Superlatives:

  • show the noun that has the most of the quality of the adjective.
  • add "est" to the end of adjectives with one syllable.
  • use "most" before adjectives with more than one syllable.
  • change "y" to "i" before adding "est".
  • have irregular forms.
  • double consonants if the word ends in consonant + vowel+ consonant.
  • add "est" to the end of two-syllable words ending in "y".
