Definition

A simple sentence is a basic sentence with a subject and a verb. It can also have an object.

Explanation

A simple sentence:

  • is a group of words expressing one thought.
  • begins with a CAPITAL letter and ends with a period (.).
  • may be short or long.
  • must have a subject and a verb.
  • puts the subject before the verb.
  • is complete with only a subject and a verb if it is an intransitive verb.
  • is incomplete with only a subject and a verb if it is a transitive verb.
  • has an "s" at the end of third person verbs (he / she / it).
  • can have more than one noun as the subject.
  • uses adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions to give more information about the action.
