Superlatives compare two or more nouns.


The new software is the fastest.


Superlatives —

  • show the noun that has the most of the quality of the adjective.
  • add “-est” to the end of adjectives with one syllable.
  • use “most” before adjectives with more than one syllable.
  • change “-y” to “i” before adding “-est”.
  • have irregular forms.
  • double consonants if the word ends in consonant + vowel + consonant.
  • add “-est” to the end of two-syllable words ending in “-y”.
